Lophiostomaceae
Hans-Otto Baral, 03-07-2009 12:59
Hans-Otto BaralHi
Here is a pyreno on stem of Reynoutria japonica from Chemnitz.

Spores *31-35 x 5.5-6 µm, in shape very typical of Lophiostoma. But perithecia superficial, with an abundant subiculum of broad brown hyphae, with rounded obtuse neck.

Once more. Hyphae are about 5-7 µm wide.

No Orbilia :-) I sometimes get pyrenos to determine....

Hi Zotto,

did you found an Orbilia on this substrate ?

Re:Lophiostomaceae
Hi Zotto,
this sounds like Herpotrichia macrotricha. The ostiolar region usually appears paler, whitish to grey, especially when moistened.
Cheers,
Jacques

Re:Lophiostomaceae
there is a good account on this taxon by Barr 1984, in Mycotaxon 20 pp 8-9. Once you know it you can't miss it again!

Re:Lophiostomaceae
Hi Jacques et Zotto,
H. macrotricha occurs on Rubus fruticosus in the belgian Ardenns.
Speaking about Herpotrichia, is H. rubi different from H. herpotrichoides, two species originally described by Fuckel?

Re:Lophiostomaceae
Hi Bernard,
indeed Barr (1984) synonymizes H. rubi and H. herpotrichioides.
Cheers,
Jacques
