sequence available on iNaturalist.

found semi-immersed in stream. Interesting "aqua" iodine reaction in sub-hymenium suggesting amyloid/carotenoid mix. no spores observed outside of asci. collection sadly colonized by secondary fungus.

Collected during the 2025 Richard P. Korf Memorial North American Ascomycete Foray (aka "The Korf Foray), held at the Appalachian Highlands Science Learning Center in Purchase Knob, North Carolina.

Yes, Hymenoscyphus varicosporoides, according to DNA. This blue reaction I once obtained locally at the base in HB 10115. Peter Johnston separated Tricladiaceae from Helotiaceae while I prefer not to recognize even a genus Tricladium.

Thank you, Zotto.  While this collection sadly molded and will need to be discarded, we have recorded the presence of this taxon in our checklist.
