Lachnum on Juncus -> Lachnum pudicellum
Margot en Geert Vullings, 20-05-2026 21:49
We found this Lachnum on Juncus stems mown last year.
White fruitbody 0.7mm in diameter, stipe also hairy.
Texture:
Textura prismatica.
Hairs:
Incrusted to the apex, 2-4 septate, thickened apex, refractive guttules in the lower part.
Measured in water: 52.3 - 66.5 (66.6) µm
Asci:
Measured in water: 34 - 36.3 (36.4) × (3.3) 3.4 - 4.8 (4.9) µm
Crozier neg, IKI+
Paraphyses:
Lanceolate with refractive guttules.
Width measured in water: 4 - 5.6 µm
Protruding above asci measured in water: 24.5 - 27 µm.
Spores:
Long ellipsoid, OCI 0-1
Measured in water: (7) 7.3 - 9.5 × (1.4) 1.5 - 1.7 µm, Qe = 5.3
Using the key we arrive at Lachnum pudicellum, but is that correct?

Thank you very much in advance, Geert & Margot

Re : Lachnum on Juncus
Hi Margot and Geert,

The data of your collection actually lead to L. pudicellum. This species is common on different Poaceae dead stems. On Juncus several Lachnum can be found, including L. diminutum withclose characteristics but for the spore length

Re : Lachnum on Juncus -> Lachnum pudicellum
Thank you very much to both of you.

The species appears to be new to the Netherlands.

Kind regards, Geert&Margot

Re : Lachnum on Juncus -> Lachnum pudicellum
Be careful with Lachnum tenuissimum, which I consider a synonym. I guess that the old L. Verheij (?) had it.

Re : Lachnum on Juncus -> Lachnum pudicellum
Indeed, I saw no synonym at the Mycobank, but Index Fungorum lists Lachnum tenuissimum as valid name. Better look twice.

Thank you for your help.
