Spores 30-38x1,5-2 micrometers, asci a bit longer, 6-8 micrometers wide and paraphyses septate, swollen at top (sometimes irregulary).

This sounds for Pseudohelotium pineti. Spores should have 1-3 septa.

Asci were only 35 to 40 micrometers long. And I didn't notice that the outside would be darker.

Did you test the asci with IKI?

Re:Gorgoniceps? on juniperus needles
Greetings Zotto,
Sorry, but no. The specimen is quite small, one needle with few fruitbodies. I only used one and put it in water and hoped it stays there and I can find it (very small) :)

Hi Marja
the spore photo you show looks like a germinated spore.

there is a article from Huhtinen & Iturriaga about Gorgoniceps i can send you.

Hi Stip,
I'd like to have the article :) My own sources are very limited.
I could ask it from Mr. Huhtinen, too. But he seems to be quite busy...

There are some spores in the other photo, too. All I imagined to be spores were like that and they seemed to look the same inside the asci, too. I've never seen Gorgoniceps in real life before (and maybe none still ;) ), but many things do fit the descriptions of what I digged of the genus from internet. The expecimen is at local university now, but I think I can still send it to Seppo to be defined there. It will just take some time and patience don't belong to my best qualities ;)

Snowy greetings: Marja

Re:Gorgoniceps? on juniperus needles
Hi Marja,
It's snowing already?
Ascofrance is the best source :-) I have Gorgoniceps only seen once, the only thing that remains is the photo on my introduction page the fruitbodies were urn shaped and a bit hairy . The spores on the other photo looks germinating too.
to what e-mail adres i can send it? it is 1,04 Mb, mail to stip@helotiales.nl
cheers Stip
