Re:Xylaria guepini
bonsoir Hermine,

Siehe Foto (N.Heine)
MfG Peter

Re:Xylaria guepini
hello,
The material I have studied of X. guepini incl. X. scotica (type material and other collections) were said to be radicating in soil previously manured. But I have not seen any stroma directly attached to dung (I have never seen living material). The spores lack a gel sheath, unlike most dung pyrenos. San Martin et al. (1998) decribed Xylaria equina on dung.
cheers
Thomas

Re:Xylaria guepini
Hi Thomas,
I know the article, but I think the man (San Martini) has made everything to Xylaria. So also Poronia pileiformis. A rich beautiful species with 25 cm height. Have we in Panama (See photo ,N. Heine) . Not all Xylariceae on dung have a gel sheath, for Wawelia has none. I also believe that X. equina is a Wawelia, or do you have a class with so attached perithecia? X. guepini is perhaps only accidentally grown through manure. What X. is coprophila by Wehmeyer I can not say because I lack the literature. X. cf inaequalis I know not, but who knows it on dung, only Rogers. In the original Berk. & Cur. is on dead wood.
Conclusion: The genus Xylaria on manure does not exist for me. But it could be possible that, in very rare cases, to find a lignicole and gramicole species in the dung.
Best regards Peter

Re:Xylaria guepini
I basically agree with you but am not convinced the San Martín taxon is a Wavelia. It is true that X. guepini could have been associated with dung by coincidence but it is strange that all well annotated collections mention manure of some kind. I will mail a scan of Wehmeyer´s description of X. coprophila. I have not studied the type.

Hi Thomas,
Thanks for your opinion and your willingness to help. What speaks against Wawelia?
The e-mail address is always under the profile. Here again peterwelt@gmx.de
