Hymenoscyphus macroguttatus
Martin Bemmann, 18-09-2010 23:59
Martin BemmannHi,

this one I found today on a dead tendril of Vitis vinifera ssp. vinifera in an abandoned garden. It was hanging c. 1,5 m above ground. The ascocarps were slightly dried but after rehydration of living appearence.
I did not find croziers but I was immediatelly remembered on my find of H. macroguttatus on Fallopia (convolvulus?) from last October. Maybe Zotto will comment on this.
Apothecia were mostly long stalked and with reddish-brown edges when dry.

Re:Hymenoscyphus macroguttatus
This is a bit of the hymenium with simple paraphyses that have some septa. Width is max. 2,8 µm.

An ascus (they measured 84-111 x 10,8-12,6 µm):

and the apical apparatus in IKI. The Hymenoscyphus-type was only clearly recognizable at unmature asci. Fully mature asci had such a turgor, that the apparatus was compressed to much to see the details.

And finally some spores (16,8-20 x 4,2-5,5 µm):

Re:Hymenoscyphus macroguttatus
Surely macroguttatus! I only wonder about the low refractivity of the VBs in the paraphyses, and a bit about the drought-.tolerance. Therefore it would be good to ascertain the presence of croziers .-)

persuaded :-)!
Here are some more pictures of paraphyses with refractive content; some are branched.
In the upper right corner there is an ascusbase as well. I add another picture in CR of very young asci in the next frame.

Now the world is in order :-)

you might perhaps know that I have still that paper unpublished on this species and the close H. menthae (although the name macroguttatus has been validated in another paper). Therefore I would like to include this collection and need the coll.data (gerne auch per mail)
