erio camporesiHi all

I have a question: is the following allocation right?

Lophodermium hysterioides (Pers.) Sacc.

APOTHECIA black, elliptical, with a depression at the centre, up to 0.8x0.5 mm.
ASCOSPORES 35-40x1-1.5 hyaline, with granular and greenish contained inside, straight to little curved
ASCII 70-75x7.5-8 micron , IKI+ (blue)
PARAPHYSIS 1.5 micron broad about, hyaline or with granular and greenish contained inside, not enlarged and not branched at the apex, with goffered top.
HABITAT: on fallen and dead leaves of Crataegus monogyna, May.

Low on the left some ascospores, in the middle one ascus and two paraphysis, up on the right IKI+ in one ascus.

Hi Erio

I cannot comment on the species, but I would be highly surprised to see a Lophodermium ascus with an amyloid tip. Are you sure?

Re:Lophodermium hysterioides (Pers.) Sacc.
Hi Zotto
excuse me for the mistake: my only bibliographic reference was in "Microfungi on land plamts - Ellis & Ellis 1997" where the micro-reaction in not mentioned and my choise was to show a misleading dark microphoto instead of one more clear like in these four attached.
So the description of the asci is: ASCI 70-75x7.5-8 micron , IKI-. Is it OK?

Yes, it looks IKI-

Re:Lophodermium hysterioides (Pers.) Sacc.
In the drawing of the book "Microfungi...." amyloid reaction is negative. As for me some apparent positive reaction depends on the little thickness of wall in the apex of the asci and on a small accumulation of IKI+ contents immediatly under the apex.

Yes, such seemingly positive cases exist, and are sometimes not easy to solve. With IKI+ you mean something stained reddish, not blue? To get more certainty, I would pretreat with KOH (less than 1 minute, afterwards washing a bit with a drop of water) and then add IKI. Amyloid rings nerevr get lost thereby, and you might get a clearer result.

Re:Lophodermium hysterioides (Pers.) Sacc.
Yes, it is not a pure blue, but towards the brown, may be between the numbers 24, 25 and 26 in "Flora of british fungi - Colour identification chart 1969".
I have got KOH ... I used it once....

As for Lophodermium hysterioides (Pers.) Sacc. in the short descrption I added ASCI 8-spored (because sometimes after the ejection .. breakage of asci?... the ascospores are like pasted in groups of eight) and PARAPHYSIS... unfrequently straight (because, like in the drawing of the book, it possible to see some straight one).

APOTHECIA black, elliptical, with a depression at the centre, up to 0.8x0.5 mm.
ASCOSPORES 35-40x1-1.5 hyaline, with granular and greenish contained inside, straight to little curved
ASCI 70-75x7.5-8 micron , IKI-, 8-spored
PARAPHYSIS 1.5 micron broad about, hyaline or with granular and greenish contained inside, not enlarged and not branched at the apex, with goffered top (unfrequently straight).
HABITAT: on fallen and dead leaves of Crataegus monogyna, May.

In the middle of the microphoto a straight paraphyses.
