stream discomycete

Chris YeatesBonsoir tous
collected a couple of week ago, and although I have kept dried material I did not have a lot of time to examine this fresh, so I hope what I can show here is sufficient. This fungus was on a small branch which was mostly submerged in a local stream; it was fruiting above the water level, but the wood was totally saturated.
In the field I thought I might have a Apostemidium or similar but the spores immediately removed that possibility. All these photographs are in water and of living material. The spores showed mostly two clear drops, and the paraphyses had string-of-beads like VBs.
Ascospores measured 9.6-14.9 x 3.7-5µm
any suggestions welcome
cordialement
Chris

Re : stream discomycete
Cudoniella clavus or similar?

I've collected something similar myself (though without good vital microscopy) from a long in a stream in Exeter, and when cultured and sequenced it turned out to belong to that group, closely related to a large number of morphologically diverse aquatic hyphomycete species.

My collection was only very minutely stipitate to sessile.  The paraphyses content would also fit with Zotto's illustrations (I think).

Hope that provides a starting point at least!

Cheers,

Brian

I agree with this idea. The spore width excludes H. vernus which may occur also in autumn, only H. imberbis might be possible. But the convex hymenium and the rather long spores fit clavus.

Did the apos have a very short stalk?
