Capronia muriformis ?
Joaquin Martin, 27-03-2015 16:34
Hi

Pyrenomycete found on Quercus wood, I have very few apothecia and very small, have not managed to macro photography.
It seems that it has a tendency to form a carpet on the substrate, The apothecia piles up some with the others.
It have hair all over.
What does it seem to you?

Thank you.

Re : Capronia muriformis ?
Hi Joaquin,

the ascospores of Capronia muriformis should be darker brown, less elongate (Q < 2) and have a more irregular and stronger muriform septation. Capronia species with ± muriform ascospores are a difficult group though; some species are little known and information on their morphological variability is often lacking, which is actually a problem with many Capronia species in general... In any case you could try to document the reaction of the hymenium to IKI and then to IKI after pretreatment with KOH. There are many Capronia species that react more or less strongly red to IKI and bluish to KOH+IKI. This reaction is unfortunately often neglected in literature.

Best wishes,
Gernot
