A giant Roseodiscus formosus?
François Bartholomeeusen, 09-05-2016 11:59
Dear forum,

I found a solitary fruiting body on a stump of Alnus covered with moss on a dike in a swamp of Alder.
FRB: 10 – 15 mm, turbinate to cushionlike with a short stalk covered with white hyphen, pink-ochre with lilac tint
Spores: elliptical, hyaline with a few drops on each pole : 8,99-14,58 x 4,09-5,64 µm;
Q= 2.51
Asci: 62,82-94,06 x 4,19-12,39 µm in melzer apex blue
Paraphyses: filiform, sometimes forked: 81,72-98,15 x 2,65-4,96 µm
Outer excipulum: with curved, septated hyphen
Inner excipulum: textura intricata

The FRB looks like a giant Roseodiscus formosus! Can someone help me?

Thanks in advance,
François Bartholomeeusen

Dear Francois
look at the contents of the living paraphyses of your photo, these many droplets are very helpful and exclude a Roseodiscus. What you have is Cudoniella tenuispora, a bit too yellow but otherwise seems to me perfect.

Hello Zotto,

Thank you very much, I never would have considered Cudoniella...in my eyes it's still a giant!

1-1.5 cm is not untypical for this species. And it never grows in water.
