Capitotricha bicolor?
Malcolm Greaves, 24-03-2017 11:08
Malcolm GreavesThis was found on fallen twigs in deciduous wet woodland.
Hairs rounded with granular surface and having crystals at the tip of many. Paraphyses lanceolate. Spores 7.5-9 x 2. Asci blued at the tip.
Is this Capitotricha bicolor?
Thanks
Mal

Re : Capitotricha bicolor?
Hi Mal

Yes, I would say so (as Lachnum bicolor). Was it on oak? I found the same thing a couple of weeks ago in Surrey, swarms of apothecia on small dead, attached branches of Quercus robur.

Best wishes
Vivien

Re : Capitotricha bicolor?
Yes, surely. The fungus typically produces globose druses of crystals at the hairs, perhaps they are detached and I see only some small crystals.
