Unknown ascomycete on the moss Trichostomum crispulum found twice in South England. Hopefully somebody on here will have some ideas on the ID. Here it is stained in I. Struggled to find spores in the past but managed to find some in today's asci. Sample from January 2018.
Perithecia black, up to 1mm wide. A random ascus measured 115 x 23 but some seemed distorted. Asci 8-spored, I+ inner compartment, tip differentiated. Ascospores 26.00-32.76 x 7.5-9.1, smooth-walled, 1(2?)-septate, large guttules present. Paraphyses richly branched, filamentous, 1 wide.

Could be a Bryostroma (see Döbbeler, Mitteilungen aus der Botanischen Staatssammlung München 14: 184 (1978). The host fits B. trichostomi...but your spores seem too small (Döbbeler : 40-55 x 7-9 µm), unless they're note fully mature.
Bryostroma axillare have smaller spores but different hosts (Barbula, Ditrichum)...

Hi Pascal,
I think you are absolutely correct with Bryostroma trichostomi so thank you very much. My initial examination of fruits in Jan showed only immature asci with no spores in them - they probably began to develop whilst the specimen was in storage but still no spores were liberated so I could only measure from some of the more developed asci (most were still not mature as you can see in the 400X picture). I will keep an eye out for this in the field in the spring to try to get more mature specimens.
