Heyderia abietis?
Raúl Tena Lahoz,

On Pinus sylvestris needles, found in Cantavieja (Teruel (Aragón)) in Spain. Well, at first I thought it would be Heyderia pusilla. But asci arise from croziers. In few asci seems to not have croziers (upper left), but I´m not sure. So then, Heyderia cucullata on Pinus needles? Another question, Heyderia abietis=Heyderia cucullata? Thanks a lot,
Raúl.

Very nice photographs.
About the question on the synonymy H. abietis / H. cucullata, see the article in the joined PDF.

Re:Heyderia abietis?
Hi Raúl and Nicholas
very good photos, Raúl! It is interesting to see that H. cucullata (abietis) is able to grow on Pinus. I originally thought that Pinus needles are only inhabited by H. pusilla, but a collection on the DVD (HB 7536) and Bacyk's observations indicate that also H. cucullata may grow on Pinus.
On the DVD you can also see that during 2004/5 I studied totally 5 collecions referable to H. cucullata and 8 referable to H. pusilla. As a result, the absence of croziers was linked with smaller fruitbodies.
What is the size of heads and length of stipes in your collection? Did you also measure the spores?
Nicholas, what is the exact citation of Bacyk's article? I cannot find any reference in it.
Cheers

Re:Heyderia abietis?
Cap: 1-2,5 mm x 1-1,5 mm.
Stipe: 5-18 mm x 0,3-0,5 mm.
Spores: 13-18 x 2,5-3 µm
Spores when hipermature: at least one septum and minutely verruculose (that´s what it seems, but not sure).
In apos sent to Javier Fernández in 2006, that arrived dry because of the travel, the spore measures where:
14,46-20,91 (24) µm x 3-4 µm, 1-4 septated.

Re:Heyderia abietis?
Many thanks, that apo size sounds very good for H. cucullata
