Pyrenochaete fallax
Eduard Osieck, 06-05-2019 17:43
This Pyrenochaete collection comes from Urtica.
Setae septate 80-250 um, conidia 5-6 x 2 um.

The characters match well with Pyrenochaet fallax as described by Ellis & Ellis 1997. The host listing of Urtica dioica in the US fungal database (https://nt.ars-grin.gov/fungaldatabases/) includes only this Pyrenochaete. Furthermore, Schneider 1979 (Die Gattung Pyrenochaete De Notaris,) mentions only one other Pyrenochaete collected on Urtica: P. rhenana but this species has long hairs forming a subiculum.

Can somebody comment on or confirm this identification?

Thanks in advance, Eduard
