Black acervuli with strange brown "phragmo"conidia
Edvin Johannesen,

These small, black cushions were collected on a thin twig (presumabley deciduous). Very strange conidia appeared under the microscope (in KOH). The septa appear to be wavy, partly transversal, partly longitudinal, so possibly muriform. Some have a hyaline, apical appendage/pedicel-like structure at one end. In phase contrast a slimy (gelatinous) matrix becomes evident. Are genera like Coryneum or Seiridium possibilities or am I on the wrong track? Suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

Re : Black acervuli with strange brown "phragmo"conidia
Hello Edvin,
whatever fungus this could be - the "conidia" you show appear as strongly collapsed to me - likely due to age.
They could also be ascospores with the asci already faded (?).
Yours, Lothar

Re : Black acervuli with strange brown "phragmo"conidia
Thanks, Lothar. In fact, it was collected a months ago and it was studied without drying, but of course, the fungus may have "wintered". It looks pretty fresh, though. I doubt they are ascospores, since several have the appendage (although I guess that doesn't totally rule out ascospores).
