Dear Forum,On a debarked stem of Tilia, we found s
sur rameau de Fagus sylvatica, vers 1000m d'altitude, dans les Hautes-Pyrénées, le 07/02/2021.
it looks as if some fungus was growing there, some time ago. There are black scars or ruins of gone ascomata (or conidiomata). There is as I think no chance in guessing what fungus it possibly was. You give no microscopical details - and I think you would not have found much if you would have tried.

Ca peut ressembler en effet à de vieux stromas d' Eutypella quaternata qui étaient présents sous l'écorce. La branche décortiquée fait apparaitre ces spots noirs qui pourraient, conditionnel indispensable, être des restes. Mais comme cela ça fait devinette et on peut dire n'importe quoi. Et il vaut mieux ne rien conclure.
En revanche, retourner sur le site et trouver des stromas vivants, avec tout ce qu'il faut pour une détermination (éléments microscopiques entre autres) serait une bonne idée. C'est un pyréno du hêtre très courant, immanquable
