I have what I think is an Octospora growing on moss but I am not sure how to evaluate the spores (see attached) as there are different numbers of guttules, hence wondering which species it might be.
Spores in water: 17.2-23.1 x 7.1-9.9, Q mean =2.29 (2.0-3.04 n=20)
In Eucalyptus regnans cool temperate forest, Sth Gippsland, Victoria. Australia.
Happy to show more micro if needed.

This is Phaeohelotium baileyanum (= Helotium terrestre Berk. & Broome). Known only from Australia under Eucalyptus. But it would be good to look for the croziers because there is a more rare species without.

Thank you very much again for such a fast response. I feel a bit silly now because I see that species nearly everywhere I go, I rarely see fungi so obviously on moss and disregarded that one. A couple of asci images attached.

Hmm, this is not clear enough. It sounds like simple-septate, but I am not sure. Perhaps you can use a higher magnification and try more ascus bases? Especially young asci just during their formation are suitable for good images.

Yes, it now looks clearly like without croziers. I must correct myself. P. undulatum isn't rare, but there is only one sequence from Spain under Eucalyptus globulus. Another new sequence is from New Zealand under Kunzea with 2 % distance. So there is a wide field of research still, since there seem to exist half a dozen of very similar species.
