Hi,

I am not sure where to put this Nemania-species. The stromata are multiperitheciate, the perithecial mounds are conspicuous, the texture is carbonaceous, the apical apparatus is turning blue in lugol, the asci have a long stipe, the ascospores are (10)11-13 x 4-5 µm big and smooth. I didn‘t see a germ slit in water so therefore I would call it inconspicuous. Substrate was a big branch lying on the ground, most likely Salix or Populus.
I guess there are some similarities to N. serpens var. colliculosa and N. atropurpurea but I have not much experience with these species.

Best wishes and many thanks,

Gernot

Re:Nemania
Lieber Gernot, ich denke, das ist auf Grund der Sporenform eher eine Rosellinia.

Gruß Peter

PS: Ja da passt aber der FK nicht dazu.

Re:Nemania
Hi Gernot,
Nemania serpens var colliculosa or N. colliculosa (Schw.: Fr.) Granmo seem to fit well your description.
If you compare it to typical N. serpens ypu should find smaller perithecia and less carbonaceous crust.
Good start for 2011!
Cheers,
Jacques

Re:Nemania
Thank you, Peter and Jacques! I have material of typical N. serpens at home so I will have a comparative look at the perithecia and the crust.

Best wishes,

Gernot
