Re:ASCO ???
Il faut rendre à César ce qui est à César, ce cliché a été prit par ma maman.
Et oui, nous avons la même passion.
Mais je dirai qu'elle adore les trouver surtout et moi j'adore les trouver et les photographier !

Re:ASCO ???
Do you know the substrate? In the US almost always on linden (Tilia). That is of course the anamorph you show. Look for black discs on the same wood.

Re:ASCO ???
It grows on dead Tilia here in Russia (Moscow region), too. I've found ananorphs in early September, visited the same location several times later, and the last time it was Dec. 18 (both anamorphs and teleomorphs were present).

Re:ASCO ???
I remain puzzled about whether it EVER occurs on wood other than Tilia. Does anyone have incontrovertible evidence of another host? Every specimen, the wood or bark of which I have examined anatomically, turns out to be Tilia, despite any label to the contrary. There is no reason to believe it is retricted to one host, just a suspicion on my part.

Re:ASCO ???

Here's another record on Tilia, received from Alexandr E. Kovalenko (St. Petersburg, Komarov Botanical Institute, RAS), with the label reading as follows:

MYCOTHECA PETROPOLITANA
ab Instituto Botanico nomine V.L. Komarovii
Academiae Scientiarum Rossicae edita
2. Holwaya mucida (Schulz.) Korf et Abawi
On fallen trunk of Tilia cordata.
Russia, Samara region, Zhigulevsky State Nature Reserve, vicinities of the Shiryaevo village, Khmelevoy ravine (53°21' N, 49°53' E), in Tilia cordata - Acer platanoides forest.
21.VIII.2004 leg. O. Morozova
det. E. Popov
Note. Anamorph Crinula calyciiformis Fr. : Fr. is also present in the specimen.
