Cordyceps

Hello,

can someone tell, weather those white "decorations" of this propably Cordyceps are part of it or has some imperfect fungi infected it?
Their "stipe" about 200 micrometers high and the top "ball" is about 40 wide.
The insect is propably some spider or fly.

I have found Cordyceps canadensis, C. gracilis, C. militaris, C. myrmecophila and C. ophioglossoides ealier, but can't remember microscoping them.
They have been determinable even without microscophy.

Re : Cordyceps
Hi Marja

I think your fungus is close to the genus Gibellula but it is in anamorphic state

Hi Enrique,

Thank you. You are right!
I looked some photos from internet.
I have never even heard of this genus, very interesting indeed.

Re : Cordyceps
The anamorphic state is not uncommon. Only the perfect state is very rare (or overlooked?).
They are several species of these fungi (Hypocreales) parasitic on spiders

Re : Cordyceps
This is propably G. pulchra. Conidia are about 4x2.

Evenif this interesting species is not very nice , it is quite beautyful...
