Cistella ? on Schoenoplectus tabernaemontani
Chris Yeates, 04-05-2014 17:27
Chris YeatesBonjour tous
recently collected on dead stems of this plant; it appears to be a Cistella, but I can't get it to fit any of the species given for this genus on monocots in Raitviir. Perhaps I am missing something . . . .
Hairs with short verrucose projections, more or less parallel-sided, occasionally slightly swollen at apex (3.2-4.5µm at apex).
Asci 45-53 x 5.5-7µm. With croziers, IKI +
Ascospores 12.6-16.4 x 2.8-3.2µm.
Cordialement
Chris

Hi Chris

Cistella albidolutea would have such spores  but I know it with wider hair tips. Because of which features did you miss this in Raitviir's key?

Zotto

P.S. I just noted that I have a different folder for collections with larger LBs in the spores, see Cubby (renamed to albidolutea, large LBs).

Hi Zotto
not sure what you mean by "see Cubby" . . . . .
In Raitviir I get to this couplet:
28.  Hairs apically 5-11µm wide                                           C. albidolutea
28'. Hairs apically up to 4µm wide                                        C. tuvensis

the hairs in my collection sit inconveniently between the two ;-); that plus the fact that for albidolutea he talks of "small polar lipid guttules" which again does not fit here.
regards
Chris

C. tuvensis in Raitviir is badly described. It has rather long hairs and too narrow spores (no mention of guttulation). On Raitviir's sketch the spores are only about 1-2 µm wide, although he says 2-2.2 µm.
