Black Ascomycete
Joaquin Martin, 01-10-2014 19:47
Hola.
Ascas uniseriadas.
A ver que os parece.

Saludos y Gracias

Re : Black Ascomycete
I must confess I have no idea. A halo I did not see nut the spores remind me of a Nectriaceae.

Do you have the fungus still fresh? Because the paraphyses and asci are not alive, the paraphyses seem to contain VBs in the inflated apex, which would look more regular when alive. Such VBs would be important, they occur only in certain groups.

Hola.

Mañana volvere a recoger nuevo material, deje mucho, y volvere a hacer nueva micro.

Un Saludo y Gracias.

Hello.
I see well, fresh and juicy mushrooms. Photos of spores are esporada free.
Tomorrow I will pick up new material, leave much, and I will make new micro.

A greeting and thank you.

Yes, these paraphyses are alive and there is not trace of VBs in it. Dead cells can easily be deceptive!

A very interesting species, no idea of the genus. Maybe Patinella is related?

Or Catillaria, but ascus morphology does not fit.. :-(

Re : Black Ascomycete
Yes, and a thallus seems to be lacking. Also the growth seems on permanently moist wood, unlke a lichen.

Catillaria asci are amyloid:

Re : Black Ascomycete
You are right, the key component of algal cells is lacking and as I said morphology of asci is different...

Re : Black Ascomycete
Hi Joacquin

I think a freehand section through the apothecium would greatly help. In Patinella the excipular cells form a thick layer and are brown and angular-isodiametric.

When you look on the pored of th wood you should easily distinguish Fraxinus fromAlnus by its large pores.

Hi again,

I found good similarities with Catinella. Esp. some sporephotos in Zotto's Cubby-folder

Thanks Joacquin, I think the excipulum fits Patinella. I only wonder whether this species was ever described.

Here I made a comparison between Patinella and Catillaria concerning the excipulum. Catillaria is certainly lecanoralean, but for Patinella we do not know the relationship.

Re : Black Ascomycete
Sorry, Martin, I confused Catinella with Catillaria in your last posting. Yes, Catinella is a good option indeed! The differences seem to lie merely in spore characters (septate, much larger warts, hyaline wall).

A sequence would clarify .....

Re : Black Ascomycete
No I understood :-)

Actually, the collection by Ibai is what Joacquin found. It was only tentatively paced in the Catinella folder, although it is probably a Catinella, but not C. olivacea.

Re : Black Ascomycete
I read in the Breitenbach & Kränzlin description about the KOH reaction of Catinella olivacea. In my sample I noticed this also: pigment strongly ionomidotic (dissolving pink-red in KOH).

So this would be valable to test in the present fungus.

Hola

Saludos

Hi

This is the reaction to the KOH of the Catinella olivacea and our ascomycete.
The apothecia that are seen in the photo, are that I have used for the reaction to the KOH.

Best regards.

Yes, this is ionomidotic! But it is yellow-brown, not pink-red as I saw in C. olivacea (and literature says violet).

Re : Black Ascomycete
oh my dear, you are right. It is probably because I am sitting only since a few minutes at my new computer which arrived today, and there are so many things that trouble me :-/

o.k., I did not imagine that Joaquin had a soecimen of C. olivacea at hand. Or from which collection are the photos? This colour looks strange because I expected another colour reaction in that species.

Re : Black Ascomycete
Hola

Hi

The Catinellas olivaceas are collected in Mindi erreka, in the same place and date as our Black ascomycete, but about Quercus or Alnus, i.e. the 2014-10-03. about 50-60 m.

The first collection of Black ascomycete 2014-09-27 and the second 2014-10-03.

I have already been able to speak with Ibai, was held incommunicado by the Swedish "steppe", without phone or internet, doing a sampling in the area, as we have fresh material we are going to do a crop to observe the anamorphs and also is going to send sample for sequencing DNA.

Ibai send you an email, Zotto, and you remain informed.

Best regards.

Hola

Saludos.

Today has been Ibai in Mindi erreka, collecting material for the tests, the wood upon which this the ascomycete is Alnus, Fraxinus not as I said earlier. I leave a photo of the ecxicata deposited in the society.

Best regards.
