Scutellinia on Salix wood
Zuzana Sochorová (Egertová), 15-06-2016 07:11
Zuzana Sochorová (Egertová)Hello,
this Scutellinia was found in the Czech Republic, 12 June 2016, on a thick decaying Salix stem partly immersed in water, in altitude around 200 m asl.
Apothecia 2-5 mm, sessile, plane, +- rounded, deep orange, with dark hairs at the margin and outer surface.
Spores (from sporeprint, measured in water) 19.5-23.5 x 12-15 micrometers, ellipsoid, hyaline, filled with many little droplets, ornamented with short ridges, partly anastomosing. Outer wall doesn´t loose when heated in CB.
Asci cylindrical, octosporic, uniseriate, 220-295 x 17.5-22 micrometers.
Paraphyses straight, septate, with orange pigment, 3.2-4 micrometers broad in the middle, 5-10 micrometers at the apex.
Marginal hairs brown, septate, thick-walled 420-900 micrometers long, 22-24 micrometers broad in the middle, with simple to trifurcate base.
Using Schumacher´s key I came to point 38 (in which the lenght of spores under/over 22 micrometers is given as deciding) and then, after reading descriptions of the species, found S. olivascens as the best possibility. However, few characters don´t fit perfectly (e.g. I haven´t seen so thick hairs as given in the key).

Re : Scutellinia on Salix wood
I agree, S. olivascens seems the best option!
