Nectriaceae with white anamorph
Juuso Äikäs, 10-10-2022 13:06
There was a plentiful growth of this red Nectriaceae on the bark of a fallen Salix caprea trunk. It was accompanied by a translucent white anamorph with a paste-like consistency.

Tha wall of the peritechia turned partially purple in 3 % KOH.

Ascospores 2-celled, 10.8 - 17 × 4 - 4.9 µm.

Conidia narrowly cylindrical, 19.8 - 23.5 × 2.7 - 3.1 µm.

Any hope of getting this to species level? Even genus would be nice.

Hi,
the Cylindrocarpon anamorph points toward Neonectria. Not an easy group, more characters are needed.
More information in Studies in Mycology 68: 57–78. 2011. doi: 10.3114/sim.2011.68.03

Good luck,

I have been struggling with Nectria s.l. myself too. From where have you obtained the conidiospores ? I usually fail to get a pure colony to check the anamorph - and it seems you did not grown colonies to get the conidiaspores right ?

Re : Nectriaceae with white anamorph
The conidia are from the white stuff surrounding the red teleomorph. Here's another pic.

WOW - never experienced that here in the Mal tese Islands! Hope you deepen your studies to narrow your identification to species level. Thanks for sharing/.
