Pyreno with interesting spores on ?Rubus
Juuso Äikäs, 25-04-2023 15:56
These little black pyrenos were growing yesterday on a herbaceious stem (possibly Rubus idaeus).

The spores are asymmetrically 2-celled, have a setula at both ends and measure 8.2 - 10.3 × 2.7 - 2.9 µm. The asci are IKI negative and measure 37 - 41 × 6.5 - 7.5 µm.

Maybe someone knows what this is?

Hello Juuso,
although your spore measures are a bit small: perhaps compare with Gnomonia rubi.
Yours, Lothar

Maybe Anisogramma vepris.

Re : Pyreno with interesting spores on ?Rubus
Thank you Lothar and Enrique for the suggestions!

I checked those species and it seems Anisogramma vepris is a good fit. There are some Finnish findings of it under the name Cryptodiaporthe vepris, all on Rubus. Apparently this one has quite a bunch of synonyms, but Anisogramma vepris is the current name.

The spore appendages are often not as visible as in your photos.
Regards.

Re : Pyreno with interesting spores on ?Rubus
Yeah, in many pics I found they weren't at all visible. The description in fungi.myspecies.info seems to fit though: "often with a short bristle-like mucous appendage to ca 5 µm in length at each end (visible in water mounts)". Maybe the "setula" term I used isn't entirely fitting.

In this collection that I studied, I could not see them even though I looked for them persistently.
