On Populus leaves
Enrique Rubio, 21-04-2022 12:10
Enrique RubioCan you think of any ideas that might help me with this pyrenomycete that forms minute blackish, subsuperficial, gregarious, more or less roundish, glabrous, not setose ascomata on leaves of Populus nigra?
My first idea was Mycosphaerella, but I can't find any populicolous species that fits well to its characters. The Ascospores are hyaline and do not appear to change colour, at least at this stage of maturation.
Many thanks again

Hi Enrique,

maybe Cladosporium allicinum (Fr.: Fr.) Bensch, U. Braun & Crous, which has saccate asci en ascospores with biguttulate hemispores. This species seems to occur on all kind of substrates.

Best regards,
Bernard

Hi Bernard
Although these are difficult fungi, your proposal seems quite good even without knowing the asexual morph.
Many thanks
